Sharing food knowledge, one dining experience at a time.
“The Textbook for the Epicurean” is a personal restaurant review and food blog owned and operated by Alexander N. Inspired and spoiled by his mother’s amazing French cooking since childhood, he created this site as his collector’s guide to some of the best foods the U.S. has to offer in the hopes that it would be informative and entertaining to other casual appreciators of good cuisine.
“Le Larousse Épicurien” originates from a play on words combining the famed French dictionary “Larousse” and the Greek school of thought founded by Epicurus in 307 B.C.
At its heart, Epicureanism teaches that the greatest good is to seek modest, sustainable pleasure, sometimes in the form of food and drink - all of this to achieve tranquility and freedom through knowledge of the workings of the world. Discovering simple joys and happiness is its main goal - similar to the purpose of our project.
When evaluating a restaurant location, three equally-weighted criteria are rated out of 10 points. The grading rubric includes: Food Quality, Meal Value, and Experience. Food Quality may be broken down to freshness of ingredients, preparation and execution of the dish. Meal Value not only touches on the price point, but also whether the meal was worth its stated value. Dining Experience may include the quality of service at the location, its convenience, and environment provided by the restaurant. The final overall rating is a cumulative average of those three factors.
Short numerical reviews of each restaurant can be found on Le Larousse Épicurien’s Instagram page found here: instagram.com/larousseepicurien, while extended written reviews may be found on the main website here.
In the meantime, thank you for visiting our page and enjoy your stay!
